Landscapes have always been a popular subject of the art world. First as paintings and then as photographs, with the rolling hills and green patchwork countryside, the UK it is the perfect arena for landscape images. Distinguished photographers like Joe Cornish and John Shaw made a name for themselves photographing the English countryside. Their work has been inspirational to many photographers and now they regularly hold seminars on landscape photography. A really good landscape photograph should draw the viewer in and make them gasp in awe and have them wanting to get to that very same location. It’s the way that the photograph is taken the way the photographer has used his imagination and skill to capture the light and atmosphere of a particular landscape that makes it outstanding.
It is important to remember that there is a great amount of skill involved when taking landscape photographs, timing, light and the right equipment are all crucial. There are of course plenty of programs to help you should you not get it quite right. Photoshop has an abundance of tools to help you adjust the colour and tone of the picture. But if an image has been overworked in Photoshop it can tend to look false, there needs to be a degree of photographic vision in the first place.
One of the most amazing landscapes in the world for photography is New Zealand, they have everything from snow caped mountains to endless white sand beaches. Having been there a few times, I find it one of the most inspirational places on the planet. The rolling hills of the Canterbury Plains and the snow caped mountainous backdrop of Lake Tekapo in the south island, to the rain forest like area of the Corramandle Peninsula and 90 mile beach in the north island. The two islands also boast an incredible coastline with endless places to surf, making it a perfect destination for someone like myself. I would recommend everyone to visit New Zealand before they die!
As you can imagine I now have hundred of landscape photographs of New Zealand, this is true. Some of which I have turned into amazing landscape photos and had printed and framed others I have had printed canvases made up, the rest just get archived.
